Phytosterol is physically purified from corn and soybean. It has the characteristics of high nutritional value and strong physiological activity. Phytosterols can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by reducing cholesterol. It is widely used in food, medicine, cosmetics, animal growth agent, paper processing, printing, textile and other fields. Especially in Europe, it is very common as a food additive. It is widely used in food to reduce human cholesterol.
From 1999 to 2007, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Japanese Ministry of agriculture and forestry, the European Commission and the British Food Standards Agency successively approved the use of "healthy" labels for foods added with phytosterols.
